Cross Country Kirklees Final – Tuesday 9th October 2018
This afternoon 13 children from KS2, who had qualified for this round of the cross country competition, attend the Kirklees final in Huddersfield.
When we arrived, the atmosphere was fantastic; everyone was excitedly waiting to be called for their races.
Arthur was our first competitor in the Year 3 boys’ race. He sped away with the pack and finished in an impressive 27th. Next to race were the girls from Year 4 (Poppy, Matilda, Emily, Lauren and Jessica). All the girls ran extremely well and fought hard to finish in the best position they could. Poppy ran amazingly well and finished in 6th position – wow!
Matthew was next to race in the Year 4 boy’s race. He also finished in a fantastic 27th position!
We had a short break after this excitement whilst we waited for the Year 5 races to be run.
Veronica was our individual runner for the Year 6 girls. Again we watched her speed off around the 1500m course, and saw her finish in an incredible 12th place!
Finally, it was the turn of our Year 6 boys. They all ran their absolute best, but admitted that it was a tough course. They places in the late 30s to late 60s and should be extremely proud of their efforts.
Thank you to all our competitors for their hard work and excellent attitudes. Well done!
Cross country running competition – Thursday 27th September 2018
Over 60 children from the whole of KS2 took part in the Mirfield round of the cross country competitions which took place at Crossley Fields. The course was challenging; it seemed quite long to some of the children and one side had a gentle slope!
There was a great atmosphere; plenty of cheering each other on and congratulating each other on fantastic results.
And fantastic results they were…
All our children from Crowlees ran well. Our results included some amazing first and second placings across Year 3, 4 and 6.
Following these brilliant results, some of our competitors have been selected to run at the Kirklees Final. We will have Veronica (Year 6 girls), Arthur (Year 3 boys) and Matthew (Year 4 boys) running as individuals. In addition, we have 2 teams who qualified: Year 6 boys – Billy, Dylan, Jacob, Liam and Oliver, and Year 4 girls – Lauren, Poppy, Matilda, Jessica and Emily.
On Monday 12th February, two gymnastic teams performed routines at Battyeford Primary School in front of a packed audience.
The children, from Year 1 and 2, had learnt short performances using skills taught in their PE lessons.
Both performances were fantastic – the children were super stars! We saw forward rolls, jumps with perfect landings, and a variety of balances, on the floor and on a bench.
Well done to Hammad, Edith, Stanley, Scarlett, Louis, Luke, Eva, Sophie, Will, Oliver, Chloe and Maryam.
The team consisted of girls from years 4, 5 and 6. They played brilliantly and we are very proud of them all. Thank you to Mr Farrar for taking them.
This is the girls’ match report:
At the start, we were ready to go! There were 4 teams and we played 6 games. Our first game boosted our confidence as we won 5-0 and then continued on playing well – managing to win the next game too. The same continued for the rest of the tournament and we beat every team. The teamwork was good up front and also at the back. Everyone worked together and we had a successful win. Altogether we scored 20 goals and conceded none. We all won a gold medal and had lots of fun!

I thought you might find it useful to have an update on how you would know if the school was closed in severe weather conditions. As you know, the school would only close in extreme circumstances. (more…)
