Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice Challenge

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice Challenge

Last summer (July 2021), as a school we supported the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in their challenge to run ‘Around the World’.   Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice supports children with life shortening conditions and their families across West Yorkshire. The charity supports these families both at their hospice, Russell House, located in Huddersfield and through their hospice at home service, offering families a range of services from therapies to care. It costs around £4 million each year to run the charity and with very little government funding, the support of the community is vital.   As a school we decided to run at least 1000 miles as our contribution to the ‘Around the World Challenge’.  We asked the children to ask friends and relatives to sponsor them to take part in the challenge.   Our children raised an incredible amount of money for the charity – £5978.26! This was by far the largest amount raised by a single school during this event. Well done, Crowlees!   Overall, the ‘Around the World’ challenge raised £17,500 for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice....

Sport Round-Up

Sport Round-Up

Autumn 1 Sport Round-Up It has been wonderful to see children at Crowlees participating and competing in sporting activities again! 43 children across KS2 took part in the Mirfield cross country competition. All our children ran well and 11 qualified for the Pennine Sports Final. Outstanding results from the Mirfield round included: Year 3 Reggie – 3rd Fletcher – 5th   Year 4 Aisha – 6th   Year 6 William – 4th   Year 5 Lucas – 1st Archie – 4th Charles  – 5th Oliver – 6th William – 7th Edith  – 1st Millie – 2nd Gracie – 6th   Reggie, Fletcher (Year 3), the Year 5 boys and girls, and William (Year 6) qualified for the Pennine Sports final. The route and competition was much tougher but they tried their best and ran really well. Our highest placings were Millie and Charles, finishing in 8th place in their races.   In October, some Year 4 children took part in  ‘Run, Jump., Throw’ event which gave them the opportunity to try out a variety of athletics events with children from other schools in Mirfield. We hosted this at Crowlees, and the children had lots of fun throwing javelins, skipping and running amongst other activities.   Some of our Year 6 children have been trained as Sports Leaders. They will be attending sports events throughout the year to support younger children, as well as leading some activities at our school too.   Our sports clubs at school have been busy too with the football clubs (KS1 and KS2) each having over 30 children attending. The athletics club were preparing for the competition which is held in Autumn...
